Hannibal, S1 Ep 9/10

Hannibal, S1 Ep 9/10

Hi everybody, Mary here.

Now that you all know how #TwoWeeksOfHannibal goes, let's go straight into the core subject of this article : the review for the two following episodes, Trou Normand and Buffet Froid. Just a little thing before we start : I am seriously wondering what non French-speaking people think about the titles of the episodes, like do you understand them ? Anyway, let's get started !

Trou Normand
"World's sickest jigsaw puzzle.
- Yeah, but where are the corners ?"
And just like every week on Hannibal, let's give another award to this episode's crazy psychopathic killer : mister I don't give a sh*t about my victims as long as they make a great totem trophy ! Anyway, we can see more and more deranged minds here and there. Let's have a minute of silence for all the police officers catching them to keep us citizens safe. Also, can we talk about the fact that this killer has killed for over forty years without being caught ? How many people like this do you think are out ther in the wild ? Yes, I am wondering too...

"I am worried about you, Will."
And... yes ! We can finally see Jack Crawford admit that he may be wrong. Hannibal finally tells him that it's not the best thing for him and Crawford tells us that he asked Graham's help only because the case he was working on was urgent. However, let's go back to Will, who dealt about his relationship status with Alana Bloom. She told him that the only reason for not dating him is his mental instability. I'd like to take a couple of minutes to tell you guys that not dating someone just because of a mental illness or any disorder is WRONG, especially if you have feelings for that person and that those feelings are reprocicated. He now has time losses, which makes his life really more difficult. What happens when he dissociates ? I think it's a matter of time before we know...

"I am not a monster.
- No. I know what monsters are. You're a a victim."
And for the last part of this review, another important point is Abigail becoming more and more guilty about her helping her father "collecting" the girls that he would kill afterwards. As he has frequent nightmares not only about the girls killed "because" or "for" her, but also the murder she committed and she lied about, even if it was self-defense. Hannibal tries to calm her down by telling her she's innocent, but let's be honest, he wants to protect his own interests as well.

Overall impression : A thrilling episode that left me really perplex and amazed. As always, I am in awe of this show !

Buffet Froid

"You're in very good hand. Dr. Lecter here is one of the sanest men I know."
Again, it was a little bit ironic to hear that since Hannibal is a cannibal and looks the cleanest and the most respected, not only by his own field but also by other fields. He uses his influence and his power to befriend the doctor who did a brain scan on Will and is now ready to do anything not to be discovered and influence more people. He even forces Will to lie about Abigail's murder and the fact that he was the one to hide the body found in this episode.

"I'm having a hard time thinking. I'm losing my mind. I don't know what's real."
We also can see in this episode the degrading situation for Will Graham as he keeps losing time and even contaminates a crime scene. Sometimes he even spaces out for hours before realizing it. May I say that since the beginning, it was just a tad predictable ? Anyway, he goes to a brain scan, but has no physical brain damages. As he discovers that his problem might be only psychological, he still wants to stay even if Jack knows how bad it is for him and that he discovered himself the consequences of his will to stay anyway.

"I feel crazy."
And as always, we have our case of the week. This time we are not talking about a male psychopathic killer but a woman suffering from a mental illness. As I am interested in psychological studies I could immediately diagnose her (according to the characteristics given by the characters) with Cotard delusion (when somebody believes that they are dead or immortal, but in this case, she thought she was dead), with a hint of prosopagnosia, since she can't remember faces and she killed her best friend because she couldn't remember her face and thus couldn't recognize her. Hannibal then used her to accuse her of a murder she didn't commit because she wouldn't recognize him anyway...

Overall impression : May I just say that in the final scene when we see through the woman's eyes and Hannibal's blurry face, she can still recognize him by his massive lump of hair ? Anyway, great episode otherwise !

Okay, so that's it for today ! I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you soon !

And as usual, our last word... KIDNEYS !
