Hannibal, S1 Ep 5/6

Hannibal, S1 Ep 5/6

Hi everybody, Mary here.

So, as #TwoWeeksOfHannibal keeps going, here is my third review, for the episodes, Coquilles and Entrée. *gosh, can I say it again that I LOVE the fact that they picked French culinary terms for the first season and that Mads Mikkelsen is SO SEXY when using French words ?* *swoons into infinity gracefully*

But let's talk about the topic, shall we ?

Coquilles

[Talking about Jack Crawford] "When it comes to how far he's willing to push you to get what he wants, he's certainly no saint."
As I was talking about earlier, Jack Crawford definitely pushes Will Graham into doing the thing he doesn't want to do : watching crime scenes and being forced to use his empathy on sociopaths, criminals, murderers. As his mental health is declining (we can really see that in the fact that he is now sleep-walking), we can see the pattern I had forseen in previous episodes. The madness continues, on Hannibal. *gosh, I could be GREAT at doing those trailers !*

"I'm afraid I might insist on it. No need for unnecessary suffering."
Do you remember Hobbs talking about "honoring his victims" in previous episodes ? We can now admit that Hannibal didn't copycat him for no reasons, after all, he is a cannibal. But as we can see in this episode that he is forcing Jack Crawford's wife to eat the foie gras *don't ask me how they are made before I throw up on you via the Internet*, which shows his really, really sociopathic traits. Like, seriously ? Now, doctor Lecter, I will suppose that every meal you serve at your table is human meat. Hopefully I am vegeterian though, I will just use that as an excuse for... *sweaty palms* *runs away from Hannibal's table before being killed*

"Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooths as raven's claws."
And... another life lesson from Hannibal. Every human being is afraid of dying, even myself. And yet, we turn to angels as a protection, as a comforting thought of what can happen after we die. The killer of the week, however, decides to kill because... well, he has a brain tumor. Then he proceeds to transform himself into an angel by committing suicide. In the same episode, it is revealed that Bella Crawford, Jack's wife, has a lung cancer, leaving her in the same situation. We can now wonder what this episode really taught us today about the human condition...

Overall impression : Another amazing episode that shows great wisdom and scenery. Once again, the actors are great *can I say once again that I LOVE Mads talking in French terms though ?* and the story is also really good. Lokking forward to more !

Entrée

"A unique cocktail of personality disorder and neurosis that makes you a highly skilled profiler."
For this sixth episode, Graham is confronted to a murderer, Abel Gideon, who killed his nurse. As a further investigation is conducted, the investigators are led to the the Chesapeake Ripper, a serial killer that thought of failing to catch him. They then proceed to investigate in order to know if Gideon is the ripper or not. *well guess who it was ? Hannibal all over again !* *hides in fear of being discovered* Anyway, he must have manipulated Gideon into believing that he was the murder when he wasn't at all.

"Here we are : a bunch of psychopaths helping each other out."
In this episode, also, as Freddie, Crawford, Alana Bloom and Graham are talking about the most sociopathic jobs, it was shown that surgeons were in the fifth place, followed by journalists at sixth law enforcement at seventh. And as this group is working on their current case, it brought me another idea : when you are given a position of power, whether on a group of individuals or one person alone, you can do pretty anything you want. With this influence that Hannibal has, it is indeed easier for him to keep doing his crimes undercover.

"She was a brave young woman."
While the current investigation about the Ripper is being dealt with, and Jack is confronted with his memories of his intern killed two years ago by him, it is finally revealed that Hannibal had invited her in his office before killing her when she found out that he was the serial killer. As I said before, he uses methods to keep his secrets, and after manipulation and threats to all the people that could interfere with him, it is undeniably proven that he also killed for the truth not to come out.

Overall impression : ESPECIALLY good job on this one, it gave me the chills, as always. I will keep watching it with a really vivid interest !

Okay, that's it for today. *sorry for late upload, I was working today. sorry again can't promise I will always be on time anyway* See you soon for the next review on #TwoWeeksOfHannibal...

And as usual, our last word... KIDNEYS !
