Hannibal, S1 Ep 7/8

Hannibal, S1 Ep 7/8

Hi everybody, Mary here. So, as #TwoWeeksOfHannibal keeps going strong, here is the review for the episodes Sorbet and Fromage. *but before beginning anything may I say that sorbet is a dessert usually served... at the end of the meal ? Like... after the fromage (cheese) ?* Anyway, let's get started, shall we ?

Sorbet

"When did you stop being a surgeon?
- I killed someone. Or, more accurately, I couldn't save someone. But it felt like killing him."
Yes, Hannibal, we believe you... We can see more of Lecter now that he talks to his psychiatrist *the WONDERFUL Gillian Anderson who also was one of the big reasons I started watching this show* and as he tries to hide his true nature behind talking to a lot of people and trying to come closer to Jack Crawford, Alana Bloom or Will Graham. However, he keeps killing people and he copycats other serial killers, or even himself, as the Ripper.

"Words are living things. They have a personality, point of view, agenda."
I think that this quote can qualify Jack's situation at the moment. Indeed, after hearing the bad news of his wife's cancer and discovering the corpse of his former trainee, giving him hallucinations, even about Graham's death, must be devastating for someone who must believe he has to stay in power and in control of everything around him. His personality makes him a hard-worker, but he is sometimes really stubborn and will do anything to get everything he wants done, either by him or by someone else. Words, for him, especially when confronted to arguments, can make him really upset.

"Before we begin you must all be warned - nothing here is vegeterian. Bon appetit."
Okay then... *leaves the table instantly* Seriously though, as we can see in this episode is a case of someone who would copy the Ripper. However, it was a medical trainee who wanted to save lives but who ended up killing people instead. And who benefits from this kind of thing ? Yours truly, Hannibal... as he keeps serving and killing people to his guests... And as he does a massive killing to "please" everybody... That part of the episode truly made me sick.

Overall impression : Another great episode as always, can't wait to see more and... actually, I don't really like the "carnivorous" part in Hannibal after all...

Fromage

"Psychopaths are not crazy. They are fully aware of what they do and the consequences of those actions."
Ha ha ha, the irony when you know that Hannibal Lecter is a cannibal... As I said previously, he indeed serves human meat to all his guests, regardless of his relationship with them, and his relationship with Alana Bloom continues... Anyway, we can see him going around like a normally composed human being, having hobbies such as classical music and performances at the opera. It reminds all of us that being a serial killer isn't written on our foreheads, and that everyday people can be serial killers. Just beware...

"I feel like I have dragged you into my world.
- No, I got here on my own, but I appreciate the company."
In this episode, we also can see the relationship between Alana Bloom and Will Graham as he hallucinates about an animal in this house. Alana is the very person noticing that he indeed hallucinates and yet they share their first kiss. In my opinion, Will is more inclined to her because he needs stability. Maybe a person in his bed *was thinking about moral support and cuddles, not sex you perverts out there* would reassure him and give him some nice words after a nightmare. After all, dogs are his only company... But as Alana doesn't want to commit because of "work reasons", they can't be in a relationship for the moment.

"Are they always made from cat guts ?
- Not always."
And the award for best (worst) creep of the week is... mister "I use human intestines as a part of my musical instruments and I transform the rest of their bodies into an instrument I LOVE playing with on stage !" ! As one of Hannibal's patient is also the friend's killer and discover the truth, Hannibal befriends the killer and kills the friend, before killing the killer because he was about to kill him anyway. I don't know if that the way Hannibal or any killer/criminal befriends other people "like them", but anyways, it's really creepy.

Overall impression : An excellent episode, as always, nothing to add besides this last quote showing the relationship between Hannibal and his psychiatrist : "Hannibal, I am your psychiatrist... you're not mine." Let's meditate on that, shall we ?

Okay, that's it for today ! I hope you enjoy that post and I will see you soon for the following one of #TwoWeeksOfHannibal...

And as always, our last word... KIDNEYS !
