Broadchurch, S1 Ep4

Broadchurch, S1 Ep4

Hi everybody, Mary here.

So, as #TwoWeeksOfBroadchurch keeps going, let's go for the review of the fourth episode in the first series. So here it is !

Episode 4

"I can help. But I need to be taken seriously, and that's not happening right now."
In this episode, the guy who says he has a contact with the dead goes again to talk to Beth about the boat that he had already talked about previously. Now that the boat has been found and that Danny's hair was also found in it, will this man be taken seriously ? How could he scientifically know and prove what he says ? Will he find other things before the police ? And last but not least, what is his intent to talk to the family and how could he convince the police of what he says ? After all, he's already been convincted for several crimes, can he be trusted or is he lying ? And last but not least, will there be more things to be find in the boat, even if he was burnt down ?

"You're Susan.
- Yeah.
- Or is it Elaine ?"
In this episode, we can see two new suspects : Jack Marshall, who had previously accused of sexual offences on minors, and Susan Wright, who has Danny's skateboard and who lied about Mark Latimer and his work in the house where Danny was killed. In the first case, we can see someone who lies to avoid talking about her private life and hides her true identity somehow by being very reluctant to answering the police's questions, and in the second case, we can see a man who has committed crimes, did his service for the society, and is still harassed by a lot of people years after that, as if they didn't want to let it go away. What will we learn about these two characters in the future ? Will Jack be accused of Danny's murder even if he talked to the family to tell them that he considers himself innocent ? Will the police find out about Susan and the skateboard ?

"The reason Danny's death isn't getting proper attention is it's not the right profile."
In this episode, the journalist from the Herald comes back to charge and wants to write an article about Danny's death from his family's point of view. We can see again that these journalists just want to be the first ones to publish something about a new scoop to sell more and make more money and make other journalists from other newspapers jealous of them. They don't respect the family's intimacy and they even follow them to take photographs from their house when Jack comes to explain that he didn't kill Danny. They even follow them to church when they go to hear the sermon ! That's also the reason for which Alec Hardy hates them so much : why are they talking so much about the story at Sandbrooke ? What happened there ? What kind of illness does he have and how is it going to affect his job and work in general ? We will know more soon...

Overall impression : A really great episode, lots of tension and new suspects, not a single opportunity to make the truth clear has been forgotten. A really good time, once again.

Okay, that's it for today, I hoped you enjoyed this post, and I'll see you soon for another one !

And as usual, our last word... KIDNEYS !
