Do Big YouTubers Deserve More ?

Do Big YouTubers Deserve More ?

Hi everybody, Mary here.

So, to conclude this quick series of #YouTubeOpinions, here is the third and last article about YouTube (upcoming : my reviews of In The Flesh). This is a little bit more personal (and it will be probably be more controversial) opinion about something that I noticed quite recently, but what must have been going on for a while now : "OMG, [insert quite popular YouTuber name here] deserves way more subscribers than they have !1!11!1!"

So, I have two ideas that popped up in my mind about this :

1) Obviously, if you think that your fave deserves more than what they get, that's probably true. Whether it's because they are creative, innovative, talented, or are just a really great person to you, it doesn't mean that their growth should have a cap amount of subscribers/followers. It's perfectly alright to ask people to check out their fave when they think that they are really great. But, I mean, if they are already famous, haven't they already proved their worth, even when they "deserve more" ? Their growth will happen, if they are as good as you say. They will be the ones remembered when the fame and money-whore YouTubers will see their glory fade and disappear as fast as it was created.

And usually, people that are mentioned in these sentences are not the biggest, usually under a million (when you know that some are over one or even five millions, it's peanuts), and also "out of the norm" compared to mainstream YouTubers (that are the ones that I criticise the most). But these are the people that I follow right now, that can keep themselves honest, transparent and genuine, and I feel like a bigger audience would freeze them up and turn them into what they never wanted to do : mainstream YouTubers. I mean, many people were so genuine when they had just started, and now, as they are famous, they feel the pressure of the audience and turn mainstream just to survive.

So, maybe I am telling you to keep these people like they are, with a home-made audience composed of genuine and happy people, rather than ultra-sensitive people who go berserk every time their fave is criticised ? I don't know, just a thought.

2) Why not extend this thought to smaller YouTubers, who just like your faves, are creative, innovative, talented ? Those who have a story to tell (even if they don't have the means to go with that, which is quite stupid as you need a ultra-expansive equipment nowadays to even think about being a YouTuber), who have a talent to show-case, or who just had something to say, and yet, who are not noticed by anyone as the YouTube system only rewards the big content creators and smothers the hard-work and dedication of these small YouTubers.

I'd like to reminds you that when the current celebrities created their own channels, it was the beginning of YouTube. The standards and expectations from the audience were low. YouTube was a platform to create and share your passions with the world. Remember the slogan "Broadcast yourself" ? I haven't seen that on the frontpage for a while. It was easy to make a couple of thousands of subscribers, that was super-mega fame at the time. People interacted with their faves with video responses. Everything was built up to make them grow.

But now, what we have is :
- A shitty system that only reward the big content creators as the "best of YouTube" and never showcase a small content creator.
- Fans having set such high standards and expectations that they will only watch SUPER-QUALITY content with a professional camera, super-cool editing skills with a really expansive software, light boxes, and much more.
- NO VIDEO RESPONSES. (Aside from the YouTube current debate... Coincidence much that they are only doing this between themselves ? And I am talking about the YouTubers that I like and enjoy, the genuine ones. The bigger YouTubers will never talk about this touchy subject.)
- A lack of clear, transparent communication between fans and big content creators.
- No rewards for small content creators who still struggle in a sea of fish that are bigger than them and who could eat them up anytime.

To conclude, it's great to show your love for a well-deserving YouTuber. But will you go that extra mile and discover new talents, that may be the new deserving people tomorrow ?

Okay, that concludes my #YouTubeOpinions. I hoped you liked this post and this short series. Tomorrow, I will start reviewing In The Flesh, for anyone interested !

And as usual, our last word : KIDNEYS !
