Broadchurch, S2 Ep5

Broadchurch, S2 Ep5

Hi everybody, Mary here.

So, as #TwoWeeksOfBroadchurch keeps going on its second week, here is the review for the fifth episode in the second series of Broadchurch. So, without any further ado, here it comes !

Episode 5

"You should go. Take Fred. Sleep.
- I don't sleep much at the moment, and I don't like my flat and I want a proper look at your files."
In this episode, we can see that Ellie fully takes Alec's previous case and decides to work reall hard on it. In my opinion, it's for her a sort of release from the trail and her current situation : indeed, her own son, Tom, doesn't want to talk to her anymore as he stays at her aunt's flat for the moment, and that he doesn't want to come back with his mom in her flat. Ellie, after losing her husband and job (wasn't she downgraded from Detective Sergant to Police Constable ?), loses her son as well, and that doesn't help the feeling of guilt and the pressure from the trial, from Broadchurch, from her friends, family and loved ones. That's the reason for which Ellie is really the one who's having it worse, at the moment. But how long will she be able to handle it by herself ?

"Why didn't you take his case ?
- Because I didn't like you enough."
We also learn in the end of this episode that not only the student's son is in jail, but that Jocelyn had refused to defend him at the court. And now that he got hit while being imprisoned, she accuses Jocelyn to have let her son down ??? Like, was it Jocelyn's duty to cover the son's murder ??? In the other hand, Jocelyn saying that she refused the case because she didn't like her student was not something to do. And thus it explains the reason for which they are in a constant argument. But is it really good fot the trial to just see two women fight to see "who's the best", despite the case and their job, which is to find the truth in the court ?

"You know we talked about something in Danny's name ?"
Also, Beth tries to create the charity in Danny's name, she wanted to offer some support to teenagers who would keep secrets from their loved ones, but the Reverend, Oliver and his boss try to create a group of known sex-offenders in order to rehabilitate them in the society. When I know that Danny was killed because of a sex-offender, I wouldn't want to create a charity in his name with all the people who did the same things to other kids or people. And we can see that she's uncomfortable to the idea as well. But maybe, it's a way to ask for redemption and giving forgiveness to people ? Anyway, we'll know more about it quite soon...

Overall impression : Great episode, once again, still worried for my precious child, I hope that if she survived one more episode, she can survive the rest of the trial... *prays hard*

Okay, that's it for today ! I hope you enjoyed this post and I will see you soon with another one !

And as usual, our last word : KIDNEYS !
