Broadchurch, S2 Ep2

Broadchurch, S2 Ep2

Hi everybody, Mary here.

So, as #TwoWeeksOfBroadchurch continues its second week, here is the review for the second episode in the second series ! So, without any further ado, here it comes !

Episode 2

"What did he say ?
- He said he's close."
Right in the beginning of this episode, we can see Claire's husband stalking her, and now, he has her number and he wants to see her as he knows now that she lives in Broadchurch under Alec Hardy's supervision. So, a meeting is organised in order for him to see her before leaving her and stop stalking her. He claims to be innocent for the muder of two young girls aged 12 and 19, but Alec Hardy is convinced that he's the murderer and he wants to convinct him even if the case has been abandoned for a long time now. The meeting, however, is in Ellie's house that isn't visited anymore ; what will be the consequences of this meeting and this unofficial protection/investigation for Alec and Ellie ? We'll know more soon enough...

"We cannot discount the possibility that the injuries were sustained before his arrival at the police station.
- I agree with the defence. I am minded to exclude the confession from the evidence."
In this episode, we can see that this trial is more a confrontation between Jocelyn and her student (poor Jocelyn, knowing that the case is quit weak and can, and was, returned against them). It looks like this is a show-off where the two parties show their evidence, even if it's not related to the case (like, they judged Mark's affait with Becca Fisher, then Beth had to confess that Mark had hit on Danny once, do they want to accuse Mark of the murder instead of Joe ?), and knowing that Ellie also hit Joe while in custody made the confession invalid even if, in my opinion, it was just a mistake and Ellie shouldn't have been offered to go see her husband until she calmed down (or not at all, maybe). And now, the defence is using all that to discharge Joe Miller... Who will win this trial, and what will the consequences be if Joe is freed after all ?

"You know that if you beat him up, kick the shit out of him, it would give him a chance to get off."
And here we go again ! (Please tell me, if you're watching Broadchurch, do you agree with Beth's reaction towards Ellie in the latest episodes ? Because I don't understand, genuinely...) Not only Ellie is categorised as Joe's wife, the brillant cop who slept with a murderer without knowing it, but even if Beth had all the rights to yell at the cops who dug Danny's body for NOTHING (they literally found nothing there, it's disgusting what they can do sometimes), she doesn't have the right to shame Ellie, who legitimately didn't know anything and was as oblivious as any other inhabitant in Broadchurch that he was the murderer. And now that everybody knows that she bet her husband because of an instinctive reaction (even it I agree that she shouldn't have been let with him during the custody), how will the rest of Broadchurch react to that ? What about Tom and his little brother ? How will they react to that and can they maintain their family when Tom goes to play video-games with Mark without anybody knowing him ? (By the way, I don't really like Mark's recent behaviour, what if he killed Tom as a... I don't know... sort of revenge against Joe, since he said in the last episode of the first series "why didn't you kill your own son instead of ours ?"...)

Overall impression : Another great episode, as I previously said, Charlotte Rampling is my precious child, and if you don't agree with me that she's the cutest EVER, come fight me, I'm ready). Anyway, really great time, and a lot of suspense !

Okay, that's it for today's post, I hope you liked it, and I will see you soon with another one !

And as usual, our last word : KIDNEYS !
